Construction waste needs a planned route from generation to an appropriate receiving facility. Booking a collection is only one part of the duty-of-care process.
Apsley Contracting assesses commercial requirements in London and the South East. See our construction waste removal service for scope and tender enquiries.
Describe and classify the material
A refurbishment load may contain plasterboard, timber, metal, fixtures and contaminated or hazardous materials. Do not describe it as clean inert waste simply because it arose on a construction site.
Surveys, waste descriptions and, where needed, suitable assessment or testing help determine classification and acceptance at the destination. Asbestos and other hazardous waste need specialist arrangements.
Check carriers and destinations
The appropriate carrier registration and receiving facility authorisation must be checked for the proposed activity and material. A carrier registration does not by itself authorise treatment or disposal.
Apsley’s website records CBDL508213. Its current status, tier and scope should be confirmed during procurement. No owned waste processing facility, landfill, recycling centre or dedicated skip fleet is claimed.
Maintain appropriate transfer records
Non-hazardous transfers need appropriate waste transfer documentation. Hazardous waste may need consignment documentation and different handling, transport and destination arrangements.
Descriptions and records should identify the actual material and relevant parties. The project team should agree how documentation is collected, retained and supplied for handover; requirements depend on the waste and jurisdiction.
Make segregation workable
Separate timber, metals, plasterboard and clean inert waste where practical and in accordance with facility acceptance requirements. Containment, storage space and loading routes need to support the plan.
Consider reuse, recovery and recycling where suitable, without assuming every stream is recoverable or promising unsupported diversion percentages. For excavation spoil, see Muck Away & Site Waste.
Discuss your scope or issue an ITT
Send the project location, removal schedule, drawings, relevant surveys, access constraints and intended programme. We will review the requirements and confirm the next steps.
